Counter Culture tenor: Art Garfunkel is in concert, 8 p.m. July 24, State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton. The New York Times described Garfunkel as a “beautiful countertenor.” Garfunkel is best-known as one half of 1960s’ counter culture folk-rock group, Simon & Garfunkel. Highlights of Garfunkel’s solo music career include a Top 10 hit, three Top 20 hits, six Top 40 hits, 14 Adult Contemporary Top 30 singles and five Adult Contemporary No. 1 hits. Through his solo and collaborative work, Garfunkel has received eight Grammys, including a Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1990, he and Paul Simon were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Garfunkel has appeared in theatrical feature films, published a book of poetry and released 12 solo albums, the most recent, “Some Enchanted Evening” (2007). He released an autobiography, “What Is It All But Luminous: Notes From An Underground Man,” in 2017. Crossover country star: Ronnie Milsap is in concert, 8 p.m. July 19, Penn’s Peak, Jim Thorpe. Milsap, of Robbinsville, N.C., was born nearly blind from birth. Milsap is one of the most successful and versatile country “crossover” singers of his era, appealing to country and pop music markets with hit songs that incorporated pop, R&B, and rock ‘n’ roll elements. Milsap’s biggest crossover hits include “It Was Almost Like a Song,” “Smoky Mountain Rain,” “(There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me,” “I Wouldn’t Have Missed It for the World,” “Any Day Now” and “Stranger in My House.” He has received six Grammy Awards and has had 35 No. 1 country hits, third to George Strait and Conway Twitty. Tommy James and the Shondells, formed in Niles, Mich., in 1964, had two No. 1 singles in the United States: “Hanky Panky” (1966) and and “Crimson and Clover” (1969), and also charted 12 other Top 40 hits, including five in the Hot 100’s Top 10: “I Think We’re Alone Now,” “Mirage,” “Mony Mony,” “Sweet Cherry Wine” and “Crystal Blue Persuasion.” His autobiography, “Me, The Mob and The Music,” received acclaim.
