LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Camp Jefferson: Campers visit Camelbeach

Camp Whitehall has sadly hit the halfway point for the summer, but we still have four more amazing weeks to go. The theme for week four at Camp Jefferson was Hawaiian, just in time for the Camelbeach trip.

With this week’s amazing weather, the campers were able to play Four Square outside, with one day of playing inside due to a storm.

The campers also enjoyed creating beautiful drawings with markers of different activities and wonderful name plates on the rainy day. As some campers participated in this activity, others enjoyed making string bracelets they could wear or give to other campers.

On Tuesday, the campers enjoyed a field trip to Camelbeach, always a favorite. Students were placed in groups with counselors and some of Whitehall’s finest lifeguards to explore the massive park.

Camelbeach is home to more than 31 slides and attractions. Some campers decided to face the brave Vortex, more commonly referred to as the “toilet bowl.” This ride has campers go around and around the side of a huge bowl, until they are eventually pushed out the bottom with a big stream of water and down a slide. This seemed to be the toughest attraction for our campers.

A picnic-style lunch was provided by Camelbeach. The campers enjoyed the open soda fountain and made their own unique concoctions of flavored sodas. We had a fun-filled day with the 85-degree weather on our side.

Later in the week, the campers enjoyed making leis to embrace the Hawaiian theme. Campers were able to choose a color lei they would like to do and made the flowers into wonderful creations they were able to wear as a flower crown or a necklace. It was truly an amazing sight to watch the campers work so hard on their leis. They all turned out great!

As the week came to an end, Friday was our theme day. The campers sported Hawaiian outfits for the whole camp to see. Kasey T. and Austyn V. went all out, with Austyn in a bright Hawaiian shirt and Kasey in a long grass skirt.

Before heading to the pool, we played a quick game of Drip, Drip, Splash that allows the campers to put on their swim suits and choose one out of the group to drop a cup of water on who then chases them, just like Duck, Duck, Goose. We had a very fun, eventful week with different activities and an amazing field trip.

Congratulations to siblings Jeremy L. and Jessica L. for being the Campers of the Week!
