Camp Cementon: Kids make ice cream treats
They say time flies when you’re having fun, and that saying definitely holds true while at Camp Cementon!
With week four completed, Camp Cementon has officially reached the halfway point. Although the weather was not cooperative at times during the week, that did not dampen our spirits. Throughout the week, campers enjoyed a variety of fun activities such as hat decorating, dodgeball and an easygoing game of musical chairs.
On Monday, it was raining most of the morning, so everyone played indoor games, including Cops and Robbers and limbo. Swim lessons were canceled but were rescheduled for later in the week.
The weekly activity, which was hat decorating, was completed during this time. Each camper received a plain white hat and decorated it with fabric markers. It was amazing to see the different creations everyone made. Some campers made hats of their favorite sports teams, while others drew pictures of their family pets. Luckily, the weather cleared up enough to enjoy the second half of the day at the pool.
Tuesday was one of the nicest weather days of the week. Campers appreciated their free time playing outdoor games, such as Pacman and Four Square. We finished up this very hot day with time at the pool and a fun game of Simon Says.
The highlight of the week was on Wednesday when Camp Cementon visited Imagi Nation in Allentown, which is an interactive center teaching children about different careers in a kid-sized community. The campers were given 15 minutes at each of the seven role-play stations located around the building, such as the marketplace, diner and police station. While at the stations, the campers “worked” jobs such as a doctor, cashier, chef and an ice cream maker.
The ice cream-making station was by far the favorite. While at this station, the campers got to choose what ice cream flavor they wanted to make and picked out two yummy toppings. After everyone completed the stations and ate lunch, the much-anticipated, uniquely made ice cream creations were devoured.
Upon arriving back to Cementon, everyone headed straight to the pool to cool off for a little bit before finishing the day with some free time.
Thursday was a very dreary day filled with lots of rain. Most of the day was spent inside playing games like Night at the Museum and Heads Up Seven Up. In the afternoon, the campers were upset they would not be swimming but quickly perked up when they were given popcorn and Kool-Aid to enjoy while watching “The Muppets.”
On Friday, the weather was back to normal, and we were able to go outside and soak up the sunshine and heat once again. The campers and counselors participated in team jersey or shirt day, and some even wore the hats they made earlier in the week. Friday was also the day of the makeup swim lessons, so campers had two swim lessons in one day. The campers liked playing Red Light-Green Light and their all-time favorite Silent Ball. With the sun shining down on us, the pool was definitely refreshing in the afternoon.
The Campers of the Week were Aniyah C. and Noah S. Congratulations, and keep up the great work. You both deserve it!
Although it is sad the halfway point has been reached, everyone is excited to come back Monday and make the second half of the camp year great.
