Summer Theatre “Goes”: Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes,” July 11-28, continues Muhlenberg Summer Music Theatre’s 39th season. Porter’s 1930s’ score includes “I Get a Kick Out of You” and “You’re the Top.” The story is about madcap antics on an ocean liner bound from New York to London. Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy No. 13, “Moonface” Martin, aid Billy in his quest to win Hope. “Anything Goes” is directed by Charles Richter with music direction by Bryan L. Wade and choreography by Shelley Oliver. “The Mystery” continues: Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival’s “The Mystery of Irma Vep: A Penny Dreadful,” continues through July 14, Schubert Theatre, Labuda Center for the Performing Arts, DeSales University. Two fearless actors and a backstage brigade deliver quick changes and hilarity in Charles Ludlam’s gothic spoof of Victorian melodrama. The “tour-de-farce” features an unforgettable cast of characters all played by two actors. Festival favorites Christopher Patrick Mullen, above right, and Brad DePlanche, above left, revive their roles from PSF’s 2007 production, each playing one of the kooky servants and the lord and lady of the house, respectively. Jim Helsinger, PSF veteran actor and director, returns to the director’s chair for the second time with the same cast. Essential to the quick-changes are costumes designed by Lisa Zinni, costume designer for many PSF productions.
