NORTH WHITEHALL: NOVA grillin’ up some barbecued chicken

The Auxiliary of Northern Valley Emergency Medical Services, NOVA, will be serving barbecued chicken dinners noon to 6 p.m. on July 20.

The full-course meal includes half a chicken, corn on the cob, pickled cabbage, baked potato, dinner roll and dessert.

The meal may be enjoyed in the air-conditioned social hall or may be packaged for take out.

Reservations must be made in advance.

The Rev. Dr. Patience Stevenson and other pastors will offer a Blessing of the Animals in the Union United Church of Christ grove, Neffs, at the 10:30 a.m. outdoor worship service on July 14.

Bring your pet, a photo of your pet or a stuffed animal to represent your pet for the blessing.

Worship also will be outdoors 10:30 a.m. on July 2 due to a carpet replacement project in the sanctuary. There will be no 8 a.m. worship times on July 14 and 21.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, has Sunday worship services 9 a.m. during the summer.

The church invites individuals to join the quilting group which meets 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays.

The group is looking for people who are interested in hand or machine sewing, knotting, and machine or hand quilting.

If you are not experienced at sewing, you can learn as you go.

Participants report it is a time for sharing conversation and laughter, along with doing the sewing projects.

St. John’s offers a Zumba class 6-7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays for the remainder of the year.

The Keenagers seniors group will meet noon July 16.

Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, will provide dinner and an outdoor worship service on July 17.

The evening begins 6-6:45 p.m. with a meal including hot dogs, cold drinks and potluck side dishes and desserts.

Worship service begins at 7 p.m. Bring chairs to sit on and relax in the outdoor area behind the church.
