Fire damages Upper Macungie home

A fire reported by a neighborhood walker badly damaged a home at 124 Robert Drive, Upper Macungie Township, shortly after 9 p.m. July 3.

Units from all three Upper Macungie fire stations responded to the call and firefighters first on the scene reported the ranch home was fully involved with flames showing through the roof and around roof soffits.

Lower Macungie units from that department’s three stations, and trucks from Greenawalds and Western Salisbury fire companies responded to provide manpower.

Fire officers on scene said the fire was extremely difficult because of the heat and humidity that hampered firefighters laboring in their heavy protective gear.

Ambulances from Cetronia, Macungie and Emmaus, as well as two units from Carbon County, provided rehabilitation services with hydration, energy snacks and monitoring of firefighters’ vital statistics.

A number of firefighters showed the effects of heat stress and were relieved by the additional manpower resources.

Lehigh County tax assessment data indicates the dwelling is owned by Anthony and Teresa De Biase.
