Camp Cementon: Campers take swim lessons
Even in the midst of this major heat wave, Camp Cementon had a great time last week!
Everyone was thrilled to be able to play outside on the playground and at the pool everyday. This week was also the start of swim lessons for many of the campers. Every morning, a group of kids are brought to the pool, and the lifeguards work on skills such as floating, going underwater and jumping in.
On Monday, we greeted all the new and returning campers and played a couple camp favorite games, like Silent Ball, dodgeball and Red Light-Green Light. Our day concluded with time at the pool, which was much needed with the high temperatures.
On Tuesday morning, the camp played more games like Four Square, Fastest in the West and Jump the River. After lunch, we introduced a new game called Drip, Drip, Splash, which is basically Duck, Duck, Goose but with a cup of water. The campers loved this game, and even some of the counselors joined in and let the kids dump water all over them. After this, we went to the pool and had a great time.
Wednesday was a field trip day for both camps, and we all went to Bear Rock Junction, New Tripoli. The day was full of activities like mini golf, bean bags and a train ride around the entire course. Even though there was a little rain shower midday, it didn’t stop any of the fun. After lunch, every camper was able to pick a flavor of ice cream to enjoy. When we returned to camp that day, many of the kids were sad to hear we had off the following day, due to the July 4 holiday.
Returning back on Friday, we were greeted again with good weather, which led to an awesome day. All the campers were very excited to talk about their picnics from the previous day - and, of course, all the fireworks. After some free time on the playground, the camp played group games such as Night at the Museum and Simon Says. We ended our day with time at the pool.
Throughout the week, we also worked on a craft. The campers made American flag shirts, using hand prints and fabric paint. They all turned out great.
This week, we awarded Camper of the Week to Chance T. and Olivia B. They both showed outstanding behavior all week and played well with all the other campers. Congratulations to both of them.
We are all very excited to see what the other weeks have in store for us, and we hope everyone continues to have fun!
