Enjoy a relaxing day experiencing the sights and sounds of various gardens at Parkland Garden Club’s 21st annual garden tour, “Kaleidoscope of Color Around the Lehigh Valley,” 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 13 rain or shine.

This self-guided event features eight residential gardens, which can be done in any order.

“This year’s garden tour reflects the idea that gardeners are always including color, textures, patterns, and different forms and shapes into their gardens,” Barbara Campbell, chairman of the tour, explained.

The one-acre property at 5043 Elmhurst Drive, Schnecksville, will greet visitors with colorful perennial flower beds, 200 dramatic lilies standing 4 to 5 feet tall, as well as flowering viburnums and hydrangeas scattered throughout the garden.

More than 15 different species of birds nest can be found in the trees, shrubs and birdhouses on the property.

Visit an English garden showcasing espaliered fruit trees, and a rose arbor at 2172 New St., Orefield.

Also featured are a lovely pool, outdoor entertainment area, and a kitchen garden.

The garden at 2325 Focht Ave, Allentown, has an expanse of lawn that includes a “herd of sheep,” an English village among the Irish moss bed, an organic garden of blueberries, multi-season raspberries and a large vegetable garden.

A front walk lined with red geraniums welcomes visitors to the classic Dutch Colonial West End home at 2713 West Greenleaf St., Allentown.

The front garden under the Split Leaf Red Maple is filled with geranium macrorrhizum, astilbe, hosta, mountain laurel, and ligularia.

The backyard at 934 N. 21st St., Allentown, has been designed to welcome birds and butterflies.

The garden is planted with more than 100 species of native plants that provide food and shelter for the birds and insects, as well as beauty for the human eye.

At 4065 Pheasant Court, Allentown, there are nearly 1,000 perennials providing a “kaleidoscope of colors,” as well as a variety of trees and shrubs and a 2,200 gallon fishpond with waterfall.

A gardener’s paradise can be found at 4053 Pheasant Court, Allentown.

As one approaches the front walkway, take note of the interesting textures and colors, including a Japanese Umbrella Pine (Sciadopitys verticillata).

Keep a look out for fun sculptures and many colorful containers throughout the garden beds.

A silent auction featuring garden theme items will be held at 2172 New St., Orefield.

A creative demonstration by David Shimp, greenhouse manager at Phoebe Floral Shop, will be featured at 10 a.m. at 4065 Pheasant Court, Allentown.

Sue Kittek, feature garden writer for the Morning Call, will be at 5043 Elmhurst Drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to answer garden related questions.

Advance tickets can be purchased at C. Leslie Smith, Dan Schantz Greenhouse, Eagle Point Farm Market, Edge of the Woods Native Plants, Herbein’s Garden Center, Lehigh Valley Home and Garden Center, Phoebe Floral Shop, and Hair Razors.

Tickets can be purchased at any garden on the day of the tour and children under 12 are free.
