Garden club members attend annual convention

The Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania hosted its 89th annual convention, “Seasons In Bloom” at the Blair County Convention Center, Altoona.

The April event was hosted by the nine Garden Clubs of District VI.

More than 280 members of garden clubs throughout the state attended this three-day event.

Four members of the Parkland Garden Club attended the state convention: District II/III Director Barbara Campbell, Board Member Trieste Blasko, Barbara Dempsey, state board member and Bonnie Keller, current club president.

They enjoyed informative speakers and workshops, design displays, state business meetings, installation of new GCFP officers, awards, and fellowship and camaraderie with fellow garden clubs members throughout Pennsylvania.

Sunday and Monday’s dinner programs included announcement of state GCFP awards won by the 11 Districts’ garden clubs for their projects and participation in garden club activities.

Sunday’s program was presented by Jeff Adler, “Unique Plants for Unique Situations.”

Parkland Garden Club was fortunate to have been honored with several awards.

Monday’s lunch program featured Rick Darke, “The Living Landscape” and Tuesday’s lunch program was presented by GCFP designers, entitled, “A Whole Lotta Designing Going on!”

The theme was rock ’n’ roll with floral design interpretations of Elvis’ greatest songs.

A special appearance by “Elvis” himself, was a tremendous hit.

A final wrap-up presentation by the 2020 Convention Committee which will be held in Cranberry nearby Pittsburgh, encouraged members to attend the 2020 Convention; a celebration of the 90 years of the GCFP.
