“The Adventures of Robin Hood and Maid Marian,” through Aug. 3, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, DeSales University, Center Valley, is a fun and modern rendition of the classic tale.

As the lights dimmed and children on the stage carpet seats started looking around, the Sheriff of Nottingham appeared and the tale of Robin Hood and Maid Marian unfolded.

Kailey Edwards, as Sheriff Nottingham, is exciting and grabbed everyone’s attention with her clear, projected voice and detailed, comedic animation.

Scenic Designer Steve TenEyck represents Sherwood Forest with big tree branches, tree stumps, greenery and lights.

The actors enter, clear in their delivery and energetic. Two guitar players and eight singers are engaging.

Costume Designer Courtney Irizarry attires the cast in medieval-styled clothing with a modern twist. The actors, including Maid Marian (Mackenzie Moyer), Celia (Alyssa Ramsey) and Scarlett (Taylor Congdon), are in velvet and leather in shades of blue, maroon, brown, white, red and gold.

The actors are quite funny in their jokes, humor and physical comedy. Some of the humor is geared more for adults.

When Robin Hood (Mark Yowakim) enters the stage with his merry band, a very lively archery scene ensues. The show’s Fight Director is J. Alex Cordaro.

There’s a lot of interaction between Robin Hood and his merry band, with lots of banter and joking around.

The show, directed by Matt Pfeiffer, is very well put together with plenty of comedy, action, song and dance.

This is a delightful production that can be enjoyed by children and adults.
