“What the American Flag Means to Me” Emmaus Flag Day 2019-5th Grade Poetry Contest Awards
First Place: Brooklyn Joyce
St. Ann School
Teacher: Mrs. Mary B. Ott
What does the American flag mean to me?
American flag you mean so much to me
Like freedom, peace, and liberty.
I have a flag folded in a triangle display
That I walk by and look at everyday.
This flag belonged to a special man
Who wasn’t afraid to fight in a foreign land.
So many soldiers lost their lives over the years
The flags draped over their coffins soak up the tears.
I am proud to live in a country that’s free
Where brave men and women fight for the flag and for me!

The American Flag
The American flag is red, white, and blue
Those three colors mean freedom for you
We honor it for all that it represents
The states, the colonies, and all of the presidents
It has 13 stripes and 50 stars
Representing the nation that will always be ours
We honor the flag each and every day
The pledge of allegiance is what we say
The American flag stayed up through the night,
while our veterans were in the long hard fight
The American flag is red, white, and blue,
I honor it, and so should you

The American Flag
From North to South and East to West
Representing freedom is what you do best.
You tell us of the amazing tale
Of proud men and women who refused to fail
To build this great country we love so
And the independence you proudly show.
We celebrate you each 4th of July
With explosions bursting up in the dark night sky.
Our forefathers personified strength and confidence in you
O’ the beautiful sight of Red, White, and Blue.
