LOWER MACUNGIE township BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

On June 20, the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners met to finalize plans for Depot Properties at 7284 Orchard Road.

This development which is 36 1/2 acres will be a 28,500 square foot truck staging facility which will include a building and fueling station as well as an access driveway, parking areas, utilities and related stormwater management which is significant since the creek runs through the property.

There will be 623 truck parking spaces with 31 stacked parking spaces and 99 employee parking spaces. This should help alleviate truck traffic in the Borough of Macungie. This was approved by the commissioners.

In other business, Waste Management won the bid to remain the township’s municipal waste management company. They will remain the township’s collection, disposal and recycling service for all residences and municipal establishments. The resolution was approved by the commissioners.

The city of Titusville sent a note of thanks for the donated ladder truck. It is with sincere appreciation which the city expressed by presenting a plaque to the township. This was after attempts to sell the truck at a used truck rate. This was under the leadership of Stan Cupp, parks and facilities director.

Boy Scout AJ Gable, is proposing a project for his Eagle Scout rank.

Gable is proposing to build cubbies to help hold items for swim teams and make partitions in the men’s room at the Lower Macungie pool.

This project will begin in late August and be completed by early September. Gable is a swimmer and is under the direction of Cupp. This was approved by the commissioners.

Asphalt Maintenance Solutions was approved for a time extension through the end of July. There will be a conditional use hearing July 18 at the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting. The Wild Cherry Lane bridge is closed as school has ended. There is a detour posted to avoid the area.

Township Solicitor Peter Lehr suggested the zoning amendment for the 5G Wireless Distributed Antenna be restarted. There has been a revision at the state level.

There is a revival of the development called Mountainview Lane at Elbow Lane. There will be more information about this in the coming weeks.

Commissioner Brian Higgins said there were many signs for the new St. Luke’s facility on Route 100. These are not in line with the township’s ordinance. The signage package is part of the land development package.

President Ronald Beitler complimented the EAC and East Penn School District for their action on the Bradford Pear tree problem on Sauerkraut Lane by the Willow Lane Elementary School. This land is being cleaned up of this invasive tree.
