The public is invited to attend a Founders Day dinner planned in celebration of Emmaus’ heritage. The dinner will be the debut of an annual Founders Day celebration in the borough.
The dinner will be held 6 p.m. July 27 in the outdoor pavilion of the Emmaus Moravian Church, Keystone and Main streets, weather permitting. The dinner will be catered by Licensed to Grill and will include typical fare for a dinner of the late 1700s.
The July date was chosen for Emmaus’ Founders Day to coincide with the anniversary of the founding of the Emmaus Moravian Church.
Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. July 15 at borough hall, 19 S. Fourth St. The offices will be closed July 4 for the holiday. The E-waste Recycling Center is open noon to 6 p.m. July 8 at the E-Waste dumpster beside the public works department garage on Kline’s Lane. For information visit borough.emmaus.us.pa.
Zumba sessions are offered 9 to 10 a.m. at the Arts Pavilion in Emmaus Community Park every Saturday at no cost.
Aqua Zumba is offered 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday at the Emmaus Community Park pool. There is a charge.
Bring your blankets and chairs to enjoy a movie under the stars, “Inside Out,” at Emmaus Community Park 8 p.m. July 19.
The schedule for Sunday concerts at the park include Macungie Band, July 7; Dueling Pianos, July 14; The Swing Time Dolls, July 21 and The Large Flowerheads, July 28. Concerts begin 6 p.m.
The Emmaus Farmers Market is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Emmaus Triangle. There are free food demonstrations every fourth Sunday. For information on monthly events visit Emmausmarket.com.
The Knauss Homestead will hold an open house noon to 3 p.m. July 7. The members invite the public to visit the historical site at 152 E. Main St. (enter at the Cintas building driveway and follow the garden signs). For information, visit the knausshomestead.org or The Knauss Homestead on Facebook.
The Emmaus Garden Club meets July 2 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. 2nd St. The program begins with social time noon followed by the program. Master gardener Fred Buse will take attendees to “English Country Gardens.” He will also share a description of his travels to England. Guests are always welcome. For information call 610-965-6109.
The Emmaus Arts Commission’s newest fundraiser for 2019 is “Emmaus: Gnome Sweet Gnome,” an auction of 15 custom painted garden gnomes.
The hand-painted gnomes were designed by artists who donated time and talent to help raise funds to support future arts commission projects. All gnomes are up for auction until June 30. See them online at emmausarts.org/auctions or in person 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 30 at South Mountain Cycle.
The Emmaus Historical Society’s next program is Sept. 18 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. The program, which was postponed from February, will be the Golden Jubilee 1909 celebration.
The Emmaus Historical Society picnic will be held July 31.
The society will continue to be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays throughout the summer. A new display features vintage wedding attire including four wedding dresses and a tuxedo.

The Emmaus Public Library is the place to be this summer. I hope you are all busy reading your books as members of the summer reading clubs. Some 650 children, teens and adults are busy reading. Continuing with the summer reading clubs theme, “A Universe of Stories,” Universe of Stories story time is held 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays with stories and crafts to celebrate the summer reading theme.
The morning movies 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday include July 3: “Minuteman,” July 10: “Escape from Planet Earth,” July 17: “Treasure Planet,” July 24: “Astro Boy” and July 31: Disney’s “Peter Pan.”
Come out and see the Bethlehem mounted police and horses 3 p.m. July 10 on the library lawn.
Weather permitting, meet on the library’s lawn 10:05 a.m. July 20 to work on your Quidditch skills. Don’t forget to wear your house colors (all ages; drop in).
The library will celebrate Christmas in July with a cookie exchange with music and cartoons 3 p.m. July 24.
Adults are invited to book bingo 7 p.m. July 1. The library will hold a book swap 6 p.m. July 22. Bring in some books you want to get rid of and swap with other book-loving friends.
A new offering for adults is a Stranger Things Theme Party, 3 p.m. July 13. Come in 1980s-era costumes, join the scavenger hunt and listen to the best songs of the decade.
