STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. Who are the members of your family: parents, siblings and pets?
A. I am the eldest child of my mother, Marta, and my father, Piotr. My father is a bus driver for LANTA and my mother is a wellness advocate for doTerra, an essential oils marketing company. I have two younger brothers: Daniel and Emil. I also have a younger sister: Amelia, who is 8 months old.
Q. What did you most enjoy about being a senior at Emmaus High School?
A. I most enjoyed the knowledge that I was close to finishing a chapter of my life and opening another. It is a great feeling to know what I am doing with my life after high school.
Q. What was your favorite subject? Why?
A. I love history. Since I was a little girl, I loved learning about the past. I have always had wonderful teachers in history, who taught me to truly appreciate the past and how it creates the present. I enjoy reading about the change in culture, societal norms and beliefs throughout the years. I think it is very important to know about and learn from the past in order to create a better future.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I have been a member of National Honor Society since freshman year and have received mathematic achievement awards in early high school. Since joining the East Penn family, I have received an “Appreciation for History” Award, been inducted into Spanish Honor Society and continued to be a student of high standing in National Honor Society. I was also the historian of Young Republicans Club and treasurer of Earth Watch Club.
Q. What were your favorite extracurricular activities?
A. My favorite extracurricular activities this year were Young Republicans Club, Mock Trial and Earth Watch. I love the people in these clubs, the discussions we had and the work we did to help the community. Earth Watch holds fundraisers and works to clean the school as well as parks. Young Republicans Club helps spread the word about upcoming elections and volunteers at polls.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. I plan to earn my bachelor’s degree at Birmingham Southern College in philosophy, history and law.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. I believe my biggest challenge was moving here. My whole life, I lived in the Poconos and went to a small charter school in the mountains. Having to move from everything I knew to a new area, with a school as big as Emmaus, was difficult to say the least. I’d like to say that I assimilated well into this new life, but it took a lot of work.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I’d like to be remembered as a good friend, who was always there when needed, and a good student, who truly appreciated every opportunity she received.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my mother. She has to raise four rowdy children, take care of the home, go to college and work incessantly. She does so much for the good of the family and deserves even more. I would love to have her work ethic when I am older.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. High school is short. Don’t worry about what others think of you. Also, have fun. Grades are very important, but mental heath is more so. It is so important to find a balance and don’t ever be afraid to ask for help.
