SALISBURY TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Plans for a new fire truck appear to be advancing for Eastern Salisbury Fire Department.

Eastern Salisbury Fire Chief Dave Tomcics told Salisbury Township commissioners at the June 13 meeting the truck may cost $850,000.

“Trucks are now in the $800,000 to $850,000 range,” Tomcics said.

The new Eastern fire truck is to be a combination rescue truck and pumper.

Delivery is expected in 2021.

Township officials said, including funds the township would budget, the sale of two used Eastern Salisbury fire trucks and a fire-equipment loan, the purchase price seems feasible.

“It should be close,” township board of commissioners President Robert Martucci Jr said.

“You’re gong to be cost-conscious?” board of commissioners Vice President Deb Brinton asked.

She was assured by fire company officials they would be.

The township expects to budget about $500,000 in 2020 for the cost of a new Eastern fire truck.

ESFD may be eligible for a $150,000 loan at 2 percent.

Eastern’s sale of two used fire trucks, with a pumper truck estimated to sell for $250,000 and a rescue truck estimated to sell for $80,000, is expected to net $215,000.

Fire truck prices are expected to increase in 2020.

“Everybody urges we put in our order before the end of the year [2019],” Tomcics said.

The Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Association may fund $160,000 to $200,000 for new tools.

Discussion of Eastern Salisbury’s new fire truck purchase plans is expected to be on the agenda of the workshop following the township commissioners’ 7 p.m. July 25 meeting.

The Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners’ next scheduled meeting is 7 p.m. June 27 at the township municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.
