SALISBURY TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

The Salisbury Youth Association’s “Community Appreciation Day” has received the backing of the Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners.

Township commissioners voted 5-0 to approve an SYA request to hold the event 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 29 in Devonshire Park.

Township Commissioner Joanne Ackerman made the motion, seconded by Commissioner James Seagreaves, to bring the motion to a vote at the June 13 township meeting.

“We’re trying to become more community-oriented,” SYA President Daniel Soria said in making his presentation to commissioners at the June 13 meeting.

“We’re trying to change our approach,” Soria added.

This includes revamping of the SYA website for online sports participation registration, according to Soria.

“It’s an appreciation for the youth association,” Soria said of the event.

“The event is a little bigger,” Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Bonaskiewich explained when introducing Soria. “They [SYA] are going to use the entire park.”

The event is to include a food truck from Randall’s on The Orchard, Orefield, North Whitehall Township; a DJ spinning recorded music and a meet-and-greet with SYA officials.

Projected attendance is 75-125 people.

“It’s a great idea,” Commissioner Joanne Ackerman said prior to the commissioners’ vote.

“We’ll see how this one goes. Maybe it’s something you can do in the future,” board of commissioners President Robert Martucci Jr. said to Soria.
