LOWHILL TOWNSHIP: Churches offering family events

Christ’s Church at Lowhill, 4695 Lowhill Church Road, New Tripoli, is offering an outdoor service in the grove 10 a.m. June 23.

There will be a Father’s Day picnic immediately following the service with a basket raffle and music by DJ Jason.

Kids can enjoy some slip and slide water fun, so bring suits and a towel.

Everyone is welcome. Bring friends and family for an afternoon of fun, fellowship and laughter.

The church will have Vacation Bible School 6-8 p.m. July 15-19.

Children ages 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Take an African adventure and explore God’s goodness.

A skit, music, crafts, games and stories will be part of this fun -filled week.

A meal will be provided every night.

Friday evening will be their family program for all to share a meal and review what they learned throughout the week.

Following the program, there will be ice cream and desserts.

Morgenland Church, 3120 Weidasville Road, Orefield, will be hosting a picnic 4-8 p.m. June 22.

There will be great food starting at 4 p.m. and the band, Nick of Time, will perform 5-8 p.m.

Lehigh Valley Zoo, 5150 Game Preserve Road, Schnecksville, will be celebrating animals with the longest necks, as well as, the longest day of the year, World Giraffe Day and the Summer Solstice for one-day-only with extended hours.

On June 21, the zoo will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Then on June 22 and 23, an array of giraffe themed activities, including extended feeding times, educational keeper talks, specially crafted enrichment at the giraffe exhibit, and open tours of the giraffe vestibule will be featured.

Try some delicious food while exploring the zoo and its adorable inhabitants 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 29 at the third annual Food Truck Festival.

There will also be a variety of hands-on activities and experiences throughout the day including a meet-and-greet with Disney’s resident food connoisseur, Princess Rapunzel from 10 a.m. to noon, courtesy of Joanna Bertalan of Professional Singing Princess.

Stop by the zoo’s interactive exhibits for a chance to learn more about the kangaroos, lorikeets, and goats.

Entertainment will be provided from noon to 2 p.m. by DJ Ray of Fling-a-Things.

The zoo will be celebrating the amazing different species found in Australia including the lorikeets and kangaroos on June 30.

They will be featuring specialty keeper chats themed around native animals with an animal mingles at 1:30 p.m. in the exercise yard, and a tour of the lorikeet aviary 12:30-1:30 p.m.

They will also feature hands-on enrichment creation stations for guests to make their very own enrichment items for the zoo’s Aussie natives.

Join the staff 10:30-11:30 a.m. for “FUR”TH of July on July 4 for a meet-and-greet with the zoo’s resident sloth, Bean.

The zoo’s conservation educators will be on-site to answer any questions about Bean.
