lower macungie township board of commissioners

During the June 6 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, a land development project in Lower Macungie Township which includes a parcel in Alburtis Borough was discussed. This project already has a standing building but additional parking was needed which is where the parcel in Alburtis is being considered.

Currently, the business has 12 marked parking spaces. The parcel in Alburtis will bring the total spaces up to 116. There is no expansion of the 486,000 square foot warehouse; it is just to combine the two lots for this business. The address of the business is 8018 Quarry Road.

Peter Lehr, township solicitor, assured the commissioners that no precedent is established. The commissioners voted to approve this resolution 4-1.

There was an executive session regarding land acquisition prior to the commissioners meeting.

The new fire truck will arrive before June 20 and will be on display. Township Manager Bruce Beitel thanked the town beautification committee for all the plantings. He also thanked the Weber family for maintaining the garden they planted.

The Heritage Courtyard and museum at Camp Olympic was dedicated June 2. This area is a great place to check out and have a tour with a number of well-educated volunteers.

Progress is being made at Spring Ridge Crossing Park. This includes a new parking lot, sports field developments and fishing areas behind the Spring Ridge Driveway which will include some ADA accessibility.

Commissioner Brian Higgins warned of predatory contractors which began soliciting after the recent hail storm. Higgins had nine contractors knock on his door to solicit their business. This is against township rules. It was suggested to ask for their license to solicit within the township.

Higgins said he was invited to an Advanced Placement Government class where he spoke on local government. The class focuses on state and federal levels but Higgins spoke on the importance of local government. Higgins said it is ideal for a place to be vocal unlike the upper levels of government. The students had great questions.

Lehr was asked about the Adams Outdoor billboard issue. This case is in federal court now with no action as of yet. This is not an unusual situation.

Road construction should begin June 27. This is micro-surfacing and will affect several developments. Information will be made available to the areas affected and a schedule will be available on the website.
