LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE

Nearly 470 students celebrated their academic success and achievements during Lebanon Valley College’s 150th commencement May 11 in the Louis A. Sorrentino Gymnasium.

Bath: Ryan Johnson, cum laude, Bachelor of Science in early childhood education and special education. Johnson is a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School.

Northampton: Adam Schisler, cum laude, Bachelor of Science in business administration. Schisler is a graduate of Northampton Area High School.

Walnutport: Justin Knecht, Bachelor of Science in digital communications. Knecht is a graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School.

LVC, a 357-acre campus in Annville, offers bachelor’s degrees in the arts and humanities, business and communications, education, health professions, social sciences and psychology, and science, technology, engineering and math. Advanced health professions degrees include a master of athletic training, master of counseling psychology (fall 2020), master of speech-language pathology and a doctor of physical therapy. Online and graduate programs include an MBA with six concentrations and a general option offered on-campus or partially or fully online, a master of science in STEM education, an integrative STEM education certificate, a master in music education and a modern band certificate. In 2018, the college was listed as No. 1 in the country for graduate job placement by the career guidance site Zippia.com using federal data.

PA College of Technology

Pennsylvania College of Technology has presented student achievement awards to its spring 2019 graduates. More than 950 students petitioned to graduate at the conclusion of the spring semester, and three commencement ceremonies were held May 17-18 at the community arts center.

Matthew Joseph Paukovits, of Northampton, manufacturing engineering technology, automated manufacturing technology and machine tool technology, was presented the Alfred L. Hauser Sr. Memorial Award, given to a graduate in the two-year automated manufacturing technology or four-year manufacturing engineering technology major who exemplifies the college’s philosophy of excellence.

Brian J. Schlener Jr., of Northampton, information technology-network specialist concentration, was presented the Information Technology Faculty Award, given to a student for scholastic achievement, work ethic, character, contribution to the department and contribution to fellow students.

NCC

Laura Rex, of Walnutport, graduated with 14 other classmates in Northampton Community College’s leadership class in a special ceremony April 17. Students are selected from a pool of candidates through an application process which includes a formal interview. Over the course of 12 weeks, students enjoyed many opportunities including visiting Martin Guitar, attending a retreat at the Fowler Family Southside Center’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and hearing several community and college speakers.

Lackawanna College

Karim Quran Powell, of Catasauqua, graduated May 19 with an Associate in Science degree in business studies from Lackawanna College. LC awarded more than 330 associate degrees and certificates along with over 50 of its first-ever bachelor’s degrees to students from 11 states and countries during its 125th commencement in the college’s student union.

Wilkes University

Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy student Abigail Nemeth, of Whitehall, received the Arthur H. Kibbe Excellence in Pharmaceutical Science Research Award at the spring 2019 commencement ceremony. This award recognizes a high academic achieving graduate, who contributed to pharmaceutical science research and presented at a national meeting.

Nemeth also earned the Doctor of Pharmacy degree in pharmacy at the 72nd spring commencement ceremonies May 18.

Bucknell University

Ben Twigg, of Northampton, graduated from Bucknell University May 19.

Located in Lewisburg, BU is a highly selective private liberal arts university that offers majors in the arts, engineering, humanities, management and social and natural sciences, along with broad opportunities outside of class, to its 3,600 undergraduates. Graduate programs are available in select disciplines. University of Kansas

Cavan D. Linsenman, of Whitehall, was named a candidate for a Bachelor of Science degree in business in accounting at University of Kansas. Many candidates took part in KU’s annual commencement ceremony, which was May 19. Degrees are officially conferred in June.

Gettysburg College

Izabella Busher, of Bath, graduated May 19 with a bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College.

Founded in 1832, GC is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with a strong academic tradition. Alumni include Rhodes scholars, a Nobel laureate and other distinguished scholars. The college enrolls 2,600 undergraduate students and is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park.

Kutztown University

Marissa Roethlein, of Coplay, was among 44 students inducted into the Chi Omega Upsilon chapter of the Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society for counseling at Kutztown University. Chi Sigma Iota is an international honor society for counseling students, professional counselors and counselor educators. The society was established in 1985 by counseling professionals in Ohio. Chi Sigma Iota’s mission is to promote recognition to those in the counseling profession who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, research and clinical practice. Membership eligibility for Chi Omega Upsilon chapter is extended only to those students at KU in the counselor education program who have completed nine credits and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.

University of Scranton

Meleina Yolanda Richardson, of Whitehall, was among more than 625 master’s and doctoral degree recipients at University of Scranton’s graduate commencement ceremony May 25 in the Byron Recreation Complex. Richardson earned a Master of Business Administration degree in human resources and finance. Graduates recognized at the ceremony include those who completed their degree requirements in August and December of 2018, as well as January and May of 2019.

Wilkes University

Wilkes University awarded 797 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees at its 72nd spring commencement ceremonies May 18.

Bath: James Benes, Bachelor of Business Administration in finance; Noah Durnin, Bachelor of Business Administration in finance; Zachary Koehler, Doctor of Pharmacy in pharmacy

Catasauqua: Alexis Ayache, Bachelor of Arts in elementary and early childhood education

Lebanon Valley College

Jessica Kroboth, of Whitehall, is one of more than 650 Lebanon Valley College students named to the dean’s list for the spring semester. Dean’s list students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.4 out of 4.0. Kroboth is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in exercise science.

University of Scranton

Andrew J. Milisits and Ian P. Ellwood, both of Northampton, were among more than 850 bachelor’s and associate degree recipients at University of Scranton’s undergraduate commencement May 26 at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre. Milisits earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy. Ellwood earned a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience. Graduates receiving degrees at the ceremony include those who completed their program requirements in August and December of 2018, as well as January and May of 2019.
