Northampton Community College

There will be free Northampton Community College information sessions for medical secretary (3 p.m. June 24 and 1 p.m. July 25) and community health worker (CHW) (1 p.m. June 24 and 3 p.m. July 25) courses; all at the Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St.

Medical secretaries ensure that a medical practice, healthcare facility or treatment care center operate smoothly by greeting patients, maintaining schedules and accessing medical records.

The Affordable Care Act mandates that CHWs be members of healthcare teams in patient-centered settings, making CHW a growing field. CHWs help individuals overcome barriers to care by linking them with their local resources.
