Lehigh Valley softball coach Blake Morgan has released the 2019 Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup Softball Team roster.

The team is comprised of high school sophomore and junior softball players from the Lehigh Valley who will compete in a tournament called the Carpenter Cup Softball Classic, which is sponsored by the Philadelphia Phillies.

The tournament is also an opportunity for players to showcase their talents in front of college coaches.

“Almost everyone who tried out was in districts or states, and that’s pretty impressive,” said Morgan, whose Whitehall Zephyrs also competed in district and state playoffs.

Lehigh Valley’s first practice was held this past Sunday with the exception of players whose high school teams are still in states.

“We don’t want them to even remotely get hurt,” Morgan said.

This year’s Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup team is Emmaus infielder Marah Sisonick, Freedom pitcher Jennifer Slanovec, Bangor outfielder Morgan Karasek and catcher/outfielder Sarah Harrat, Parkland infielder Isabella Polash, and outfielder Sierra Marsteller, and Central Catholic catcher Mya Zettlemoyer.

Also, Whitehall pitcher Madi Cunningham, infielder Lindsey Gawrys, and pitcher/infielder/outfielder Abbey Reese, Northampton infielder Kendyll Strohl and infielder Katelyn Stuhldreher, Salisbury pitcher Emily Silberman, Liberty infielder Julia Luisser, and Bethlehem Catholic infielder Addison Roche.

“It was really tough because it comes down to the best person who can play at two positions,” said Morgan, who will be assisted by Ed Stinner, Kyle Stinner and Jim Haney.

Although the tournament is scheduled to begin on June 17, LV’s first game will be at 11:30 a.m. on June 18 at FDR Park in Philadelphia.

“Every year is a whole different experience. You don’t know who you’re competing against or with,” said Morgan. “The biggest question is how to play together as a team. Anytime they can be together helps with that process. The more they can relax, the better they will play.”
