Washington Township supervisors said, at their June 4 meeting, they had attended a multi-municipal comprehensive plan workshop.

The plan covers Washington, Heidelberg, Lowhill, Lynn, and Weisenberg townships and Slatington Borough.

Future workshops, sponsored by the Northern Lehigh Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee and the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission, will be 8 a.m. June 13 at Washington, and 6:30 p.m. June 17 at Weisenberg.

The purpose of the workshops is to draft the vision, goals and objectives for the area over the next decade and beyond.

The current plan was adopted in 2004, however, it does not fully account for changes in the housing market, traffic patterns, farmland preservation, land development pressures or general population growth.

In other matters, Emergency Management Coordinator Sherry Graver reported that emergency personnel had a high terrain rescue for a Coplay man who fell 80 feet and rolled farther. She said 100 personnel were on hand.

“When those things happen, we have to arrange meals and water, she said, adding Burger King helped but she would like supervisors to set aside money for this type of special expense.

The franchise for Blue Ridge Cable Technologies was suggested as a five-year contract, but Supervisor Vice Chairman Shawn Wanamaker said that provided a five-year monopoly. Supervisor Chairman Josh Friebolin said the term could be shortened.

During public comment Ed Ziegler again asked that fog lines be painted on Old Mill Road because on a foggy day it was difficult to see.

He also told the board that at Old Mill and Best Station roads the direction sign for Friedens has been knocked down for four months.

He mentioned that Northern Lehigh softball advanced to the quarterfinals and will hopefully win the state championship.
