PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE

Members of the Pennsylvania State Police investigated 755 traffic crashes during the four-day Memorial Day driving period, May 24 to 27. The crashes resulted in nine fatalities and 216 injuries. Alcohol was a factor in 65 of the crashes, including two fatal collisions, according to police.

Troopers made 582 arrests for driving under the influence and issued 14,226 speeding citations over the holiday weekend.

State police also cited 1,469 individuals for not wearing seat belts and issued citations to 308 motorists for not securing children in safety seats.

In crash data, 2019 figures are as follows: Of the 755 total crashes eight were fatal crashes, nine people were killed, 216 people were injured, 65 of the accidents were described as alcohol-related and two were determined alcohol-related fatal crashes. In enforcement data, 2019 figures are as follows: There were 582 DUI arrests, 14,226 speeding citations, 308 child seat citations, 1,469 seat belt citations and 16,681 other citations.

These statistics cover only those crashes investigated by state police and do not include statistics on incidents to which other law enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania responded.
