Salisbury Township resident Bobby Kulp, a Bethlehem Catholic High School senior, recently accepted a track and field scholarship to continue his education at Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Kulp was the top returning high jumper in District 11 this season and was looking forward to his senior season. On December 26, he took first place in the Robert J. Burdette Indoor Classic at Lehigh University, and during the meet qualified for the indoor state track and field championships.
In early January, though, Kulp suffered an ankle injury which prevented him from any further training or competition until April. He did not have enough time to get back his strength and form before the season ended, which limited him to participating only in the high jump.
The injury prevented him from having the opportunity to be a four-time District 11 place winner. As a junior in 2018, Kulp tied for 10th place in the high jump at the state championships. He leaves Bethlehem Catholic as the school record holder in the high jump.
