LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

UPPER AND LOWER MILFORD TOWNSHIP COLUMN

June – the month of graduations and weddings! And also, I hope, finally some beautiful weather. May and June are my two favorite months of the year, but May was so wet this year, I’m hoping things improve.

June also means carnival time at the Lower Milford Fire Company on Limeport Pike. The carnival this year runs 6 to 11 p.m. June 12-15. There will be fireworks Friday night about 9 p.m.

The carnival, with proceeds benefiting the fire company, will feature live music, rides, games and much more.

The following Upper Milford roads are scheduled for road work this summer, beginning June 5: Ramer Road, Colebrook Avenue, Miller Avenue, Charles Road, Robert Road, Ruth Road, Tank Farm Road, Winfield Street, Winfield Circle, Allen Street, John Street, Grace Street, German Road, Spruce Road, Raymond Court, Mill Road from Route 29 to Route 100 and East Macungie Road.

The Upper Milford Historical Society meets June 27 in the Upper Milford Township building. Mike Jesberger will talk about military flags of the early American wars. Learn about the flags that symbolized each military group in the early days of the American colonies, the causes represented by the flags and little known details and myths about each flag. Refreshments are served and everyone is welcome. For information, call 610-966-4376. Looking ahead, the society will hold its annual picnic July 25. Look for details in the next column.

The Ladies Auxiliary of Citizens Fire Company of Vera Cruz will meet 7:30 p.m. June 25 at the Vera Cruz Fire Department Social Hall. They’re always looking for new members. The group helps support the department by lending a hand in fundraising and other assistance when needed. They also hold various fundraisers throughout the year, including pizza sales, shoo-fly pie sales, a picnic to honor emergency responders and assist the firefighters with fire prevention activities. For more information on fundraisers or how to join the auxiliary, email ladiesaux@vcfd28.com.

The Upper Milford Youth Association has moved its website, umya.org, to a new platform. The new site is easier to use and will allow UMYA to better manage player data and teams. There are team pages with information for each team, which will allow coaches and team managers to better communicate with families. Fall registrations should be open. Keep in mind the first time registering, users will need to create a new account and all family and player data will need to be re-entered. This site has its own credit card processing engine so PayPal will no longer be used.

St. Peter’s Union Church is holding its annual Antique Tractor and Implement Collectors’ Show 9 a.m. to dusk June 22 on the church grounds on St. Peter’s Road. There will be tractor pulls and lots of other tractor-related activities for the whole family. In case of heavy rain, this event will be moved to June 29.

The Western District Fire Company on Route 100 will serve breakfast 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 7. For information on the breakfast, call the fire company at 610-966-3541 or Carol Shade at 610-966-3902.
