Rail-Trail
Commissioners of the Ironton Rail-Trail will have a dedication of the recently constructed IRT Levans Road Trailhead pavilion 10 a.m. June 9 at 3256 Levans Road, North Whitehall Township.
There will also be a 5K Run/Walk from the pavilion to Portland Street and back.
Constructing the pavilion on this section of trail, which was opened in 2016, fulfills the goal of the IRT Master Plan.
It took 23 years of dedicated work by members and friends of the IRT to achieve this milestone.
The IRT is maintained by many volunteers along with the three municipalities the IRT traverses.
Installation of electrical facilities, concrete deck and landscaping at the pavilion are planned to be completed by June 9.
Completion of this unique pavilion was a community-wide effort funded by a state grant, contributions from a fundraising drive of North Whitehall businesses, in-kind contractor services and/or volunteer help.
A contributor plaque will be displayed by the pavilion.
