Senior center offers various events in June

Lehigh Valley Active Life, 1633 W. Elm St., Allentown, is offering the following programs for seniors in June.

The following groups and disc jockeys will be playing oldies and requests at the Saturday and Wednesday dances, so come out and enjoy the music with your friends.

·June 1, 19: The Henry King Duo

·June 5, 22: Kato

·June 8: Blue Notes

·June 15: Dave Machetti

·June 29: Jerry Deane Music mix

Saturday dances are from 7-10 p.m. Wednesday dances are from 1-4 p.m. Per person fee includes light refreshments. Singles and couples welcome.

Instructor Trisha Baker will lead an arts and crafts class from 9-11:30 a.m. June 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24 and 26.

Acrylic painting led by instructor Judy Peters will be held Wednesdays 9-11:30 a.m. until June 19. Learn how to paint beautiful acrylic landscape scenery and subjects with brush techniques on canvas.

Friday Drop in Studio Art led by Dolly Fleischmann will be offered 9-11:30 a.m. on June 7, 14, 21 and 28.

Whatever medium you choose, help is available. Both new and advanced students are welcome.

A Paint and Sip Lighthouse will be offered 5:30-7:30 p.m. on June 5 by Angela Faidley. This class is for novices who will create their own masterpiece. Price includes materials and wine.

Diamond painting led by Trisha Baker is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. June 6, 12, 20, and 26.

Diamond painting is an easy and enjoyable way of relaxing, relieving stress and creating art.

Based on the same concept as mosaics and paint by numbers, diamond painting uses tiny “diamond” like facets to create colorful designs and patterns for finished designs that sparkle.

The senior center will offer the following knitting, quilting and sewing classes:

June 6, 13, 20, and 27: Knit and Chat 9-11 a.m. Work on a knitting, crochet or embroidered project while you enjoy some conversation. June 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, and 27: Instructor Alverna Erney will lead a Tuesday and Thursday quilting and sewing class for all skill levels 8:30-11:30 a.m.

June 18-July 2: Sandy Terp will lead a beginning knitting class from 1-3 p.m.

Learn the basics such as how to knit and purl. The yarn will be provided.

There will be needles to borrow, if needed.

The senior center will be showing the following movie “A Star is Born” at 12:15 p.m. June 12.

Research your roots through Ancestry.com with Albert P. Heydt 1-4 p.m. June 7, 14, 21 and 28.

Learn how to trace your family tree. Bring a laptop. The center will provide one for those who do not have one.
