Nestle donates to park

Eric Andreus, natural resource manager for Nestle Waters, was in attendance at the Lynn Township supervisors’ May 9 meeting to extol the virtues of Nestle’s partnership with the township.

It has been 25 years since the company started taking water from the site and Supervisor Steve Feinour and Justin Smith noted Nestle has contributed quite a bit to the township over the years via donations and sponsorship of events.

In line with this, Andreus presented a check for $15,000 to the board toward development of Ontelaunee Park.

In other matters, Kermit Delong presented himself to supervisors to complain about his neighbor.

There apparently is an ongoing problem concerning stormwater being diverted onto Delong’s property.

The board is familiar with the property and engineer Chris Noll will look into the situation.

Board Chairman Justin Smith will contact Noll to ascertain any progress.

Lynnport Fire Company reported responding to 14 calls for 2019.

Tim Van Blargen noted three volunteer firefighters completed Mod 2, firefighting, while three others will attending a pump class.

Upcoming fire company events are tool bingo on July 13, meat and cash bingo on Sept. 15 and gift card bingo on Oct. 13.

New Tripoli Fire Company had 42 calls reported this year.

Fire Chief Peter Christ reported the guns and cash tickets have been distributed and can be bought at various spots in the township.

PennDOT has given the fire company some equipment - cones, flares, signs, etc. - to be used when detours are set up.

Permanent detour signs will be installed on Route 309 and Mountain Road.

Christ noted two firefighters will be attending the pump class and the fire company will be getting its first female firefighter. Fire police will be helping out at the Schnecksville Fair and the Upper Macungie fireworks on July 6.

The oil bid was accepted. Heidelberg Township advertised the bid as a joint request and they accepted the bids.

Winning bidder was Asphalt Maintenance Solutions for a cost of $2.15 per gallon.

Lynn Township’s share will be $50,000.

Roadmaster Bruce Raber reported the crew is working on the roads and readying them for paving.

They are also doing cold patching, working on the shoulders, oiling and chipping and helping neighboring townships with their projects.

Solicitor Marc Fisher noted he has made the changes to the sewer code and will have them before the board shortly.

The board will consider having inspections done whenever a property changes hands.

A discussion was made on outsourcing mowing of the upper lot at Ontelaunee Park.

It was thought that by doing this, the crew would be able to spend more time on other projects.

Feinour noted that he would like the park to be in good shape whenever there is an event.

Upcoming events are the annual car and motorcycle show 1-4 p.m. July 7.

There is a $5 entrance fee for all participants.

A DJ will be providing the entertainment.

Donald Christ reported on the progress of the veterans memorial at the park.

He stated a cost estimate should be available by the end of summer.

They might sell bricks to aid in the financing of the project.

The board was asked to give a letter of support for the feasibility study for the pool. The board agreed to do this.

The township transfer station will be closing.

The revenue gained throughout the year does not cover the operation of the facility.

Furthermore, the crew is constantly picking up garbage that blows around with the wind.

It would cost $40,000 to pave the parking area at the station.

The income so far this year is only about $8,000.

Feinour noted, and was seconded by the other board members, that it wasn’t worthwhile to keep the station open and it should be closed.

The board decided that by the end of August the transfer station will be shut down.

Cameras will be installed on the buildings to catch anyone depositing garbage after closure.

The new emergency management coordinator will receive a $500 allowance from Lynn Township and $500 from Heidelberg. The coordinator is yet to be determined.

Smith noted the recreation fields had been vandalized the night prior or that day.

The cameras may have caught photos of the person responsible.
