The Allentown Central Catholic High School prom, Sunset Beach, was held at DeSales University May 11. The senior prom court consisted of King Alex Abouafech, Queen Sam Austin, John Cardiges, Erin Chlebove, Michael Fleck, Natasha Kuklis, Gracia Rother, Tomasz Zukowski, Brendan Kern, Rhyan Joyce, Nick Amsler and Lily Atiyeh.

The junior prom court consisted of King George Hlavac, Queen Emma Luchetti, Jack Yen, John Fenstermacher, Christopher Clifford, Christina Lipovsky, JayVian Boston, Catherine Scott, Bridget Nagle, Reily Heidecker, Alexandra Manley and Gabi Haring.

Jamilie Atiyeh won first place in the pole vault at the District XI 3A track and field championships at Whitehall High School May 15-16. Atiyeh cleared 12 feet, besting Parkland’s Jada Mangahas (11-6). She competed at the track and field state championships at Bucknell University May 24.

The 2019-2020 student council inductions were held May 16 in Rockne Hall. The 2019-2020 Central Committee includes President Sean McCarthy, Vice President Ryan Bower, Treasurer Chris Clifford and Secretary Ben Carbonetto. The Class of 2020 officers are President Emma Luchetti, Vice President George Hlavac, Treasurer Victoria Rosado and Secretary Savannah Schmidt. The ceremony also featured speeches from Central Committee President Sam Vaughan, Vice President Natasha Kuklis, Class of 2019 President Sydney Harris and special guest Provost Patrick Maggitti of Villanova University.

The ACCHS Senior Athlete Recognition Night took place May 16 in Rockne Hall. Honored were 23 seniors for their commitment to playing a sport at the collegiate level.

The academic and arts awards were held May 17 in Rockne Hall. The awards ceremony recognized various clubs and activities at ACCHS, including the band, Catholic Math League, chess team, chorus, color guard, dance team, Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, Pennsylvania Math League and Science Olympiad. The ceremony also featured performances from the band, chorus and dance team. MVPs were named for various activities, including Morgan Dietz (mock trial), Natasha Kuklis (debate team), Emma Ossiander (mock trial), Ryan Schanta (Science Olympiad), Alex Strohl (scholastic scrimmage) and Joe Traglia (chess team).

The ACCHS Key Club constructed a children’s reading corner at St. Luke’s Sacred Heart Hospital May 17. The corner is located in one of the hospital’s waiting rooms to provide children with an educational source of entertainment.

The ACCHS dance team held its recital in Rockne Hall May 17. The night featured many exciting performances and honored the dance team seniors, Maddy Rodgers and Olivia Wood.

The 2019 Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science state meeting was held at Penn State University May 19-21. First place winners from Central included Daniela Collins, Natasha Kuklis, Moira Manzella, Ashleigh Meskill, Kelsey Rodowicz, and Mary Wilson. Second place winners were Sarah Boardman, Sydni Ernst, Elena Kreger, Will McGlynn, Ian McMullen, Alana Michener and Maria Romero. Junior Mary Wilson also received a $2,000/year scholarship to the Penn State College of Engineering.

The Senior Farewell Mass was held May 20 in Rockne Hall. The ceremony recognized distinguished seniors from ACCHS and Mercy Special Learning Center who had received awards, scholarships, nominations and more. The Day-Maurin Service Society Scholarships were presented to Vincent Bet and Katie Gehris for their dedication to the Central City Project, ACCHS’ community outreach program.

The Viking lacrosse team competed in the District XI Class 2A playoffs. They bested Saucon Valley 17-5 in the semifinals May 21 and they played Southern Lehigh in the District Championship May 24 at Lehigh University.

The Vikette softball team competed in the District XI Tournament against Bethlehem Catholic May 21. The Vikettes fell to the Golden Hawks 12-2.

The final Central City Project community dinner of the year was held May 22 at Immaculate Conception Church in Allentown. The dinner, which is prepared and served by Central students to members of the Allentown community, was Mexican-themed, featuring burritos, tacos, homemade salsa, guacamole and desserts. The CCP is Central’s community outreach program, which also coordinates an urban garden, tutoring at St. John Vianney Regional School and a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Allentown.

The 2019 Freddy Awards were held May 23 at the State Theater in Easton. Central’s production of “The Drowsy Chaperone” was nominated for eight awards: outstanding choreography, outstanding overall production by a smaller school, outstanding performance by an actress in a supporting role (Sam Austin, “The Drowsy Chaperone”), the Vic Kumma Award for Outstanding Solo Vocal Performance (Sam Austin, “As We Stumble Along”), outstanding performance by a female ensemble member (Riley Loz, Kitty), outstanding performance by a male ensemble member (Brendan Kern, Gangster #2), outstanding performance by an actor in a supporting role (Dylan Brown, Aldolpho) and outstanding featured performance by an actor (Michael Fleck, Man in Chair).

The 2019 spring concert was held May 28 in Masson Auditorium. The concert featured performances from the chorus, concert band and jazz band. Senior musicians and vocalists were also recognized during the night.

Senior Chad Kratzer was recognized on the Pennsylvania All-State Class 4A boys basketball third team. Kratzer averaged more than 21 points per contest.
