LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q. Who are the members of your family: parents, siblings and pets?

A. My immediate family is my mom, Natalie Glowacki, my dad, Dennis Glowacki and my younger sister, Grace. I have two cats named Finn and Makaela.

Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior?

A. I like the freedom that comes with senior year. I was able to get involved with a program called Emerging Health Professionals in which Penn State and Lehigh Career and Technical Institute are partnered with Emmaus High School to prepare me for a career in health care. I am able to take anatomy/physiology from Penn State for college credit, shadow healthcare workers in hospital networks like Lehigh Valley Health Network and St. Luke’s University Health Network and learn technical skills such as taking blood pressure or understanding signs and symptoms of a stroke. In this program, I drive myself to different locations everyday and only attend EHS for classes in the morning. As a senior, I have the freedom to participate in an extremely beneficial program like this one.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is math. Right now, I am in Advanced Placement BC Calculus, and even though it’s a fast paced class, I look forward to learning something new everyday. Calculus is methodical and almost always has a definite answer. I enjoy using logic to figure out a way to find a solution. Also, my teacher Mrs. Stoudt is excellent at explaining new topics and engaging the class in interactive learning activities. I love hearing her math puns.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I have received several awards for my academic and athletic achievements, including becoming a member of Spanish Honor Society, being named Eastern Pennsylvania Conference scholar athlete this past winter season and being recognized as a Via All-Star.

Q. What are your favorite extracurricular activities?

A. I enjoy playing basketball, both for EHS and on an Amateur Athletic Union team. I am a competitive person and love playing to win. I have made some of my closest friends through basketball. I also volunteer through my school with the Hornet Ambassadors program, which helps freshmen to get to know the school with tours and walking them through their schedule. I am a member of National Honor Society, which does work in the community and other schools in the district.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I will be attending college, majoring in neuroscience on a pre-med track. I am still deciding where I will be going next year. I hope to graduate and go on to medical school to become a neurologist. I first became interested in neuroscience when my grandmother was diagnosed with dementia. Since then, I have been fascinated with the brain and how little we know about it. In the future, I hope to partake in research to find a cure for Alzheimer’s.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge has been balancing schoolwork with my extracurricular activities. Because I participate in sports along with my schoolwork and volunteer work, I had a difficult time getting all of my work done. I was able to prioritize my schoolwork and take advantage of study halls and time in-between school and practice to get it all done.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as a thoughtful friend, encouraging teammate and hardworking student.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my parents for being excellent role models for me. They support me in all I do and give everything in all they do.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Work hard to achieve whatever you put your mind to. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can’t do.
