LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

During the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting May 16, the commissioners announced the potential agreement of sale for the Lichtenwalner Farm along Macungie and Indian Creek roads for farmland preservation.

The Lichtenwalner Farm is 133 acres and has the best soil in the county, according to Lower Macungie Township Commissioner President Ronald W. Beitler. The farm is the second highest ranked farm in Lehigh County below the Weiner tract, according to Beitler.

Pennsylvania is very excited for this to happen as it is a great place for young farmers in training, Beitler continued.

In other meeting news, the parking lot completion at Wild Cherry Park has experienced delays due to weather. The parking lot was expected to be completed May 17 if there was no rain.

The project at Krocks and Lower Macungie roads has also experienced delays due to weather. This should be completed soon as long as the weather holds out.

The new St. Luke’s CareNow walk-in care facility on Route 100 is experiencing some drainage issues due to some unusual heavy rains. The drainage pond is being transferred from a sediment pond to a detention pond. This project is underway and the pond is in between the two types so it is not complying with drainage standards. This is being investigated and will be followed.

The Weiner tract subdivision has been completed and will be recorded before June 1.

The township has a fire truck with a ladder they have been attempting to sell which is now at a very low price. There appears to be no market for the truck. It is costing the township money as it is insured and being maintained. It was suggested to donate the truck to a less fortunate municipality. The municipality is Titusville, Crawford County, as their ladder truck is from 1969 and no longer functioning.

The commissioners declared the truck as surplus and will transfer it to Titusville for $1. Stan Cupp, director of parks and facilities, supplied $1.

There is a policy developed by Assistant Township Manager/Secretary Renea Flexer to honor long-term township volunteers. A volunteer of 20 years or more will have a tree planted in their name to honor their commitment to the township.
