District News: Students to speak at ceremony

The faculty and staff of Northampton Area High School are pleased to announce the selection of Michael Kistler Jr. as valedictorian and Gabrielle Demchak as salutatorian of the Class of 2019. They rank first and second in their graduating class.

Kistler is the son of Natalie and Michael Kistler Sr., of Walnutport. He plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania this fall to major in bioengineering. Kistler has been an active student in his NAHS career. He is a member of the varsity wrestling team, cross-country team, National Honor Society, German Club, Debate Club and Caring Kids Club. He serves as senior class president. He also is a Special Olympics and youth wrestling coach volunteer.

Demchak is the daughter of Colleen and Edward J. Demchak, of Bath. She will be attending Moravian College this fall as a mathematics/secondary education major. Demchak has been involved in a variety of activities during her NAHS career. She is a member of German Club, Library Club, DECA, National Honor Society and Volunteer Club. She participates in soccer, basketball and softball. Demchak also serves as a member of Bath Firefighters Activities Committee, is a Camp Invention leadership intern and volunteers as a coach with In The Zone and Tri-Boro Soccer.

Graduation will be 4 p.m. June 1 at Stabler Arena, Bethlehem.

Congratulations to the NAHS and Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School 2018-19 Bridges Foundation award recipients. Brianna Viera was awarded the Elizabeth Mason Thun Artisan Award, Sarah Lieberman won the Bridges Foundation Scholarship, and Amy Swierczek received the Dale Kochard Leadership Award.

The Bridges Foundation provides support toward postsecondary education, the acquisition of tools and/or equipment and to attend specialized training related to students’ career pathways.
