LV HERITAGE MUSEUM:

Major Nathan Kline (USAF-Ret), a WWII Bombardier-Navigator, will speak at 1 p.m. June 1, Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum, 432 W. Walnut St., Allentown, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the World War II Allied invasion of Normandy on D-Day.

“This is a unique opportunity for the public to hear a survivor from an era of history which is rapidly slipping away,” said Joseph Garrera, Executive Director, Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum. “He [Kline] lived history and has fascinating true-life stories to tell.”

Nathan Kline was a student at Muhlenberg College when he enlisted in the Army Air Forces in November 1942. As a Bombardier-Navigator in the 454th Bomb Squadron, he flew 65 missions over Europe, including the D-Day invasion.

On that fateful morning, Kline recalls, “When I opened the bomb bay doors, all hell broke loose. A piece of flak about four-inches in diameter tore between my feet and out the top of the Plexiglas, destroying my maps and missing my head by inches.” Major Kline will share this and many other dramatic memories during the program at the Heritage Museum.
