Kathy Hermany, helping at the Lynn Township yard sale on April 27, said Ben and Sue Giralico would be taking over from her.

Hermany asked that Harold Handwerk and the proposed Veterans Memorial be mentioned in this yard sale story.

Handwerk said the first committee meeting was held in Palmerton last year with four members: veterans Handwerk, David Keller and Willard Dellicker and Donald Christ.

Handwerk was selling bake sale items to benefit the memorial.

The group is trying to get state incorporation and set up a website.

“We will be setting up in several places this summer,” Handwerk said.

They have 900 names which includes any military person with ties to the four-township area dating back to the Revolutionary War.

They need not have been in active duty but only a military member.

Township offices can tell where to register additional people for inclusion in the project.

The memorial will be at the entrance to Ontelaunee Park.

“We’re in the early stages. We met with three people who design memorials and got some ideas. It will have an eternal flame,” he said.
