A trio of Salisbury football players wasn’t ready to hang up the cleats for good and end its playing days. During a ceremony last week at Salisbury High School, three seniors signed letters of intent to play football at the collegiate level.

Delano McKenzie (Moravian College), Jacob Kamp (Susquehanna University) and Dan Jennings (Lycoming College) all announced that they will continue their football careers at the Division III level last Friday in the Salisbury High School library.

For Kamp, it’s been a lifelong goal to continue playing football after high school. When he found Susquehanna, the combination of athletics and academics made it a fairly easy choice.

“All my life I dreamed about playing in college ever since I was five years old,” Kamp said. “The coaching staff is one of a kind, and I felt like it was a second home on campus. On my visit, I instantly fell in love with the campus because it is so beautiful.”

Kamp plans to major in pre-med and will play outside linebacker at Susquehanna. There was also interest in a number of schools that include Franklin and Marshall, Ursinus, Gettysburg, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Muhlenberg and Stony Brook.

Dan Jennings, who will play defensive tackle at Lycoming next fall, always believed he had the ability and talent to play at the college level. It really started to become a reality during his junior season when college coaches visited Jennings.

“Going into my senior year, I didn’t know what to expect to happen after the season was over,” Jennings said. “I knew I had the ability to go to the next level, but I wasn’t sure about if some of the schools offered what I was looking for.”

Then he found Lycoming. It’s a stable football program that has a national championship pedigree, as well as the best fit academically for Jennings.

“Lycoming stood out to me because of the great football tradition they had,” Jennings said. “They had previously been in Division III national championship and they have only had two coaches in the past 50 years.”

He also had the opportunity to suit up with Kamp at Susquehanna, but instead paved his own road. Jennings also visited Delaware Valley University, Kings College, Ursinus College and Susquehanna University.

“It was not an easy decision,” Jennings said. “I had the opportunity to play with Jacob at Susquehanna University which was exciting, but I had to make sure I was choosing the college that put me in the best situation football-wise and academics.”

Jennings plans to major in Secondary Education.

McKenzie, who was an offensive specialist at Salisbury and played defense as well, will play at Moravian College. He earned the football team’s Coach’s Award last year. He also competed in track and field at Salisbury, earning a pair of medals at last week’s district championship meet.
