LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

SALISBURY RAC

The Salisbury Recreation Advisory Committee met May 20 and discussed the summer playground program scheduled to begin June 17. The program continues through July 26 with a park day scheduled for July 24. The rain date for the park day is July 25.

The park program is held at four parks in the township: Laubach, Lindberg, Green Acres and Devonshire.

Much of the discussion of the playground program centered on the availability of Lindberg Park. Due to the construction, Lindberg was not available last year for the program. This year, Recreation Director Genny Baillie has been assured construction will be completed and the program can be held at Lindberg Park.

Baillie said all 18 summer counselors have been hired – 13 counselors are returning and five are new.

In other business, the committee gave Kim Ringhoffer authorization to begin working with the Salisbury Police Department on the National Night Out community event.

Last year, the Recreation Advisory Committee and the police department worked together to hold a community outreach at Salibury Middle School.

National Night Out is always held on the first Tuesday in August.

This year, Ringhoffer proposed to hold the event in July during the hours of 5 to 8 p.m. or 6 to 9 p.m. Last year’s event included vendor booths, a food truck, inflatables, a dunk tank, a raffle and other activities. Despite the rain, the event was hailed a success.

In other business, Frank Adamcik noted trees need to be trimmed at Laubach Park, specifically at the softball field where limbs are hanging over the benches. Information will be passed to John Andreas, director of public works.

In old business from the March meeting, it was announced there is a new field permitting process. Information is being updated on the website. The site asks for specific dates and times for fields and pavilions and will be moved to Google calendar. It does not authorize vehicle access in parks. There is a practice permit and a game permit.

The next meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. July 15 in the muncipal building.
