On May 16, building administration received an anonymous tip regarding a potential threat to Lower Macungie Middle School. The state police investigated the allegation and determined it was not a credible threat. This same information continued to circulate and create alarm. State police maintained its position that the threat was not credible. As East Penn is committed to the safety and security of students and staff, they appreciated the communication from the student and school community that helps continue to keep the buildings safe.

An update was provided 6:30 p.m. May 20 saying LMMS administration and Safe2Say received multiple tips regarding potential threats at LMMS. District administration and PA State Police fully investigated every tip and communication related to these threats.

The district thanked the community for their patience and understanding as the state police thoroughly completed their investigation.

In an update provided 10:05 p.m. May 20, the LMMS administrative staff and the school district worked closely with the PA State Police on alleged threats. The district reported police conducted a full investigation and state police and district administration responded appropriately to the allegations.

The details of the investigation and actions taken are confidential.

State police and administration have deemed LMMS safe for students to attend school. There was an enhanced police presence May 21 in an effort to ease parent and student concerns. Guidance counselors and administrators were available to speak to any students who felt unsafe or wanted to talk.
