May 25

The Lehigh-Pocono Committee of Concern will hold its annual Peace-A-Thon walk and bike ride near Sand Island in Bethlehem. The walk/ride will depart 9 a.m. from the Christmas City Fairground at Main and Lehigh streets. Walkers and riders are invited to arrive as early as 8:15 a.m. for a light breakfast, a group body warm-up and stretch and a bike safety check.

Walkers will complete an 8 km (5 mile) route which includes urban streets, bridges and nature trails. Cyclists will ride a challenging 29 km (18 mile) route following the D&L trail east to Freemansburg, taking to the road and hills of Lower Saucon Township and returning along the extension of the South Bethlehem Greenway. There will be stops for rest and refreshments.

Participants are asked to obtain pledges to support LEPOCO and CeaseFirePA. Call the LEPOCO office at 610-691-8730 for pledge sheets and more information.

May 26

Graveside Memorial Day Services conducted by the Macungie V.F.W. Memorial Post No. 9264 at the following locations: St. Peters Union Church Cemetery, 10:15 a.m.; Macungie Fairview Cemetery, Macungie, 11 a.m.; Solomon’s Church Cemetery, Macungie, 11:30 a.m.; Old Zionsville Zion’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Old Zionsville, 12:15 p.m.; Bethany United Methodist Cemetery, East Texas, 12:45 p.m.

The Emmaus Veterans Committee will honor departed comrades buried in each of the six Emmaus cemeteries May 26. The ceremony includes a short prayer service, rifle salute and taps. The honor guard will begin 8 a.m. at Calvary cemetery, then proceed in the following order: Old Moravian, Moravian at Ridge Street, Lutheran Reformed, Northwood and end at Evangelical, Second and Ridge streets.

May 27

Allentown Band Memorial Day concert, 4 p.m., PA Music Preservation Society, near AG Hall on the Allentown Fairgrounds.

Flag raising and placing of wreath ceremony at the Macungie Memorial Park, Veteran’s Memorial 8:30 a.m. The Macungie Memorial Day Parade will begin at the William A. Shoemaker Elementary School 10 a.m. The parade route follows East Main Street (PA Route 100) from Fairview Street to the Macungie Memorial Park Bandshell. Following the parade, the 71st annual Macungie Memorial Day program will be conducted at the Macungie Park Bandshell at approximately 10:45 a.m. The guest speaker is Scotty Coyle, pastor of discipleship at Bethany Church in Macungie, a former Apache attack helicopter pilot with tours in Bosnia, Iraq and Iran. A memorial service will be held at the Lehigh-Northampton Vietnam Veterans Memorial, 287 Lehigh St., Macungie, noon. All are invited to remain for free refreshments following the memorial service. In the event of rain, the parade will be cancelled and the Memorial Day services will be held in the Macungie Memorial Park auditorium, 50 N. The annual Emmaus Memorial Day Parade will start promptly 9 a.m. moving out from the Emmaus High School parking lot to Chestnut Street and ending at the Memorial Triangle on Fourth Street. The memorial service will be held at this location. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held in the Emmaus High School Auditorium 10 a.m.

Emmaus community yard sales. No permits are required to participate.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church community yard sale 150 Elm St., Emmaus, to benefit mission and ministry, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gently used clothing, furniture, home decor, small appliances etc. will be available for sale. The rain date is June 2.

Kiwanis Club of Emmaus 46th annual all-you-can-eat pancake festival 8 a.m. to noon at Emaus Fire Company #1, Sixth and Broad streets, Emmaus. June 4

The Emmaus Garden Club will meet noon at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St., Emmaus. The program will be “Beekeeping in America: Promoting the Medical and Historical Aspects of Keeping Bees” by Frank Licata. Think you know a lot about bees? Think again! Frank, a master beekeeper, will educate and entertain. Honey and products made with honey, such as soaps and lotions, will be available for sale. Guests are always welcome.
