Steve Brosky has been working on his tan, as in Tavern Tan, for a double bill, “Tough Tales & Rock Solid Saloon Songs,” 8 p.m. May 23, Godfrey Daniels, Bethlehem.

“Godfrey’s is a staple here in the Lehigh Valley. It’s a real gem,” Brosky says.

Tavern Tan is Doug Ashby, guitar, vocals; Andrew Brubaker, guitar, vocals; Tom Aczel, harmonica, vocals; Bill Melcher, bass, and Dave Joachim, drums, vocals.

“Doug [Ashby] has been part of the Lehigh Valley music scene for many years,” says Brosky. “Doug is married to singer-songwriter Danielle Lubené. They met at Al Guerrero’s funeral. I wrote a song for Al, ‘Shades of Blue.””

“Shades of Blue” will be heard during the second of two sets of about 40 minutes each at Godfrey’s when Tavern Tan accompanies Brosky.

Brosky says the set of nine songs includes “older arrangements of my songs,” including “Prince Whatshername,” “Fisticuffs” and “King of the Queen Victoria.”

There’s also “It’s Not the End of the World,” from Brosky’s CD, “Grateful”; “Madame Blue” from Brosky’s most recent CD, “Still,” and “Vietnam Blues,” as a Memorial Day tribute.

Tavern Tan opens the Godrey’s concert with a set of its songs.

“I’ve been a fan of Tavern Tan,” says Brosky, “They have a rootsy, garage-band flavored brand of music that has melody and heart.

“Doug [Ashby] has recorded with me, with Dan McKinney producing, on three or four albums,” Brosky says.

The collaboration with Tavern Tan is one of several for Brosky, who can be found gigging in the Lehigh Valley as a duo with Kenny Siftar, guitar.

Brosky duoed with Jimmy Meyer, guitar, until Meyer joined the Alex Meixner Band.

“I wanted to do another project or two,” says Brosky. “I did a gig with Bev Conklin of BC and the Blues Crew. I’m going to do a gig with John Canova, guitar, and James Supra, harmonica. So, I’m spreading the Brosky around here.”

Brosky performs “The Tom Waits Songbook,” 8 p.m. Sept. 20, Blast Furnace Room, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, Bethlehem.

Brosky is doing a “Salute to Veterans Day,” 8 p.m. Nov. 8, Blast Furnace Room. He’s putting together a lineup of musicians who are United States miltary veterans or have veterans in their family. So far, the lineup includes Connie Edinger, vocals; Bill Lance, sax, and Bracken. Musicians who are veterans or those who know of musicians who are veterans are to contact Brosky.

Brosky, who estimates he’s written 200 songs, hopes to release a double CD in the next year. “Hits and Misses” will include “songs that got airplay and some that did not.” he says.
