Lehigh Valley: DaVinci honors students
DaVinci honors The Da Vinci Science Center 20th anniversary Hall of Fame Awards Gala was held on April 27 at the ArtsQuest Center at Steel Stacks. This year’s event celebrated the curiosity of Leonardo da Vinci and the modern day achievements inspired by his legacy.
Graceanne Ruggiero, a Freedom HS grades nine 9-12 Science teacher, was awarded the center ‘s“New Educator Excellence Award”. This award identifies educators, in their second to fifth years of teaching, who show promising growth in their work. They have created deeply engaging, inquiry-focused classrooms with cross-curricular integration and real world applications, and they participate actively in communities of practice to support their own learning and advancement.
High school students Rhea Malhotra (grade 11, Moravian Academy) and Vidhya Thiyagarajan (grade 12, Lehigh Valley Academy) were recipients of the Student Excellence Awards. This award honors high school students who not only excel in science academically, but seek to expand their knowledge and leadership skills outside of the classroom.
BASD: Cable channel runs 24/7
The BASD TV cable channel is up and running. The station runs 24 hours, seven days a week on RCN Channel 67 and Service Electric Channel 265.
Freedom: Students Envirothon winners
FHS National Honor Society members Jacqueline Armao, Connor Cavey, Shane Deacon, Isabella Pacenza, and Ryan Smizaski placed third overall in the 2019 Northampton County Envirothon recently.
Member Jared Dowling earned special recognition for his score at the aquatics station.
Liberty: Two awarded scholarships
S.P.A.R.K.S. Foundation, a science education non-profit in Mohnton, has announced that Liberty H.S. students Jessica Batoussi, who will attend University of Pittsburgh and prepare for a degree in biology, and Georgia Giannaras, who will attend University of Delaware to study pre-veterinary medicine, are the recipients of one thousand dollars each scholarships. Liberty: Li named computing finalist
Daniel Li, a Liberty HS student, was named one of 27 finalists in the 2018-2019 USA Computing Olympiad training camp finalist for his performance on USACO contests throughout the season.
He will attend the USACO 2019 summer training camp at Clemson University, where the students will be challenged by advanced instructional material provided by the USACO staff.
