WHS volleyball wins EPC title

Whitehall defeated Freedom 25-19, 26-24, 25-18 to capture the East Penn Conference title Wednesday night at Allen.

Recently-named league MVP Joseph Herman helped to lead the way 21 kills, 2 blocks, 13 digs and 2 aces. Dylan McGinley added 11 kills and 2 blocks while Alex Khouri had 9 kills, Aziz Atiyeh had 14 digs and Ricky Melosky chipped in with 3 kills and 41 assists.

So far this season, Whitehall is 8-0 in the division, 16-0 in the league and 20-0 this season overall.

The Zephs swept Emmaus in the first round while Freedom upset Parkland in the semis.

Whitehall’s celebration will have to be short, as the top-seeded Zephs jump right back into action Thursday with a District 11 opening-round match against Nazareth, the eighth seed. The match is at Whitehall at 6 p.m.

Semifinals take place at Catasauqua on Tuesday, May 21, with the finals scheduled for Thursday, May 23, also at Catty.

Other quarterfinal matchups scheduled for tonight are: (5) Emmaus at (4) Freedom; (6) Liberty at (3) Parkland and (7) Easton at (2) Delaware Valley.
