Northampton: Car show to be held May 18 at Canal Street Park

Wheels on the Canal will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. May 18 at Canal Street Park. Rain date is May 19.

The event includes a craft and vendor fair. Proceeds benefit Mission 22 and Blue Star Mothers.

Mayor Thomas D. Reenock has proclaimed May 18 as LafargeHolcim Cement Plant Day to “acknowledge and honor the administration and staff for 120 years of operation.”

A celebration will be held noon-4 p.m. May 18 at the plant, 5160 Main St., Cementon.

“I look forward to joining with neighbors and friends to spend time sharing thoughts, customs and traditions with activities including plant tours, historic and departmental displays, a picnic lunch, ice cream truck, music, games, door prizes and gifts,” Reenock said.

The Northampton Area Historical Society will open the Siegfried Railroad Station, West 21st Street, to visitors 1-4 p.m. May 19.

The station is a museum housing historical items from the area. Artifacts from the borough’s four wards will be featured this year.

The society will hold a yard sale 8 a.m.-1 p.m. June 1. Donations for the sale are accepted from the public 6-8 p.m. May 30 and 31.

The 28th annual Wynnewood Estates garage/yard sale is set for 7 a.m.-3 p.m. May 25.

There will be more than 50 families participating in the sale.

Travel east on 10th Street from Main Street. Turn left onto Atlas Lane and continue to Buckingham Drive.

Harlow Hair & Beauty, 1774 Main St., will hold a cut-a-thon 11 a.m.-3 p.m. June 2 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Stylist Jess has been giving back to Make-A-Wish for 10 years. In 2005, her 2-year-old daughter, Olivia, was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Olivia’s wish to visit Walt Disney World was granted in 2008. Ever since then, Jess has made it her passion to repay Make-A-Wish the only way she knows how - by giving haircuts.

Haircuts and other services will be available. A basket raffle will also be held that day.
