The Lower Macungie Township Library will be closed May 25-27 in observation of Memorial Day.

The teen advisory board for grades six to 12 will meet 3:30-4:30 p.m. May 17. They will celebrate a year of birthdays with a cupcake challenge.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. June 5 to discuss “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles. The book for July 3 is “Pachinko” by Min Jin Lee.

A program “Estate Planning in the Digital Age” will be led by an elder law attorney 6-7:30 p.m. May 23. The presentation will include estate administration, considerations regarding technology and the Internet, appointment of an executor and inheritance tax.

The library summer program “A Universe of Stories” will kick off June 17. There will be weekly prizes for children age two years to entering fifth grade; family fun activities; infant/toddler special classes; middle school and high school events and Teen Reads raffle for students entering grades six through 12.

A Summer 2019 Preview Night will be held 6-8 p.m. June 10. Library staff will be available to help with registration and review the classes and events available. There will also be some out-of-this-universe photo opportunities and a make and take craft station.

The first family fun night will be held 6:30 p.m. June 17 featuring Sciencetellers, an interactive storytelling experience using science experiments to help tell the story. The program is for ages four to 12 years. Registration is required for each child attending.

The Lower Macungie Historical Society will hold a spring open house and planting 2-4 p.m. May 19 at the log house on Hamilton Boulevard. There will be spring planting in the kitchen garden and ice cream and strawberries for visitors. The museum will be closed that day.

The Lower Macungie Pool will open for the season May 25. The pool will only be open noon to 8 p.m. on weekends until June 10. From June 10-13 the pool will be open noon-6:30 p.m. pending staff availability. Starting June 10, the pool will be open daily noon to 8 p.m. The pool will close 4:45 p.m. June 20, 27 and July 8 for swim meets. For more information, check the website www.lowermac.org.

The Outlaws featuring Crazy Elmer will perform 7 p.m. June 1 at East Texas Park. Johnny’s Jukebox Band (oldies rock) will perform 6-9 p.m. June 7 at East Texas Park. The Macungie Band will perform 7 p.m. June 8 at the Hills at Lockridge. The Royalaires will perform 7 p.m. June 14 at East Texas Park.

The Lower Macungie Garden Club will meet 1 p.m. June 12 at the community center.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon June 4 and 18 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.

Macungie Ambulance Corps will offer American Heart Association CPR Training: Basic Life Support 6-10 p.m. May 30 at the community center.

The community center offers a number of activities. Classes include youth and adult tennis lessons, cooking classes, Safesitter, theater camps, Mad Science Summer Camp, junior art camps and sewing camp. Adult classes include card making, Tai Chi, Pilates and a yearlong Prevent T2 program.

A new Saturday open gym time will be offered 10 a.m. to noon for children ages 10-15 with a parent. Family open gym time is 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.

The spring yard waste hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through May 31. Starting June 1, hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off.
