To the Editor:

Tuesday, May 21, is Primary Election Day in the state of Pennsylvania. I have been watching the East Penn School Board race carefully.

This year, five 4-year seats are up for election, and one 2-year seat.

There are two candidates running for 4-year seats who have been vetted and are being supported by the leadership of the Concerned East Penn Taxpayers Association. The two, David Bocchino on the Republican ballot and Diane Schaffer, on both the Republican and Democratic ballots, concern me.

Barbara Tantaros, who was instrumental in the organized effort to complain about LGBTQ anti-bullying videos shown on the high school morning announcements, gathered signatures for Bocchino’s nominating petitions and Bocchino notarized Schaffer’s petitions.

David Bocchino isn’t even committed to the East Penn SB race. He’s also running for Emmaus Borough Council at the same time. Mr. Bocchino has the dubious distinction of having his law license suspended for unethical and unprofessional conduct in another state.

With their ties to the Tea Party, it seems clear that the Bocchino-Schaffer ticket would be bad for our students, teachers and staff at EPSD.

I suggest that you consider the other candidates and steer clear of Bocchino and Shaffer.

I ask that you not vote for them, but instead vote for the pro-education candidates for East Penn School Board on May 21. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
