STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. In what grade, are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently a 12th grader at Salisbury High School.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject is probably math, because I like that there is one solution. Unlike science, or English where there is more than one answer.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I was inducted into National Honor Society in 10th grade.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A. I play softball for Salisbury’s varsity team and I also play on a tournament/travel team. I am the president of my school’s S.T.A.Rs club (Students Taking Active Roles), and this club helps to spread the word about alcohol and drugs, and the harmful things they can do to yourself and the people around you. I am also an active member in my church. I help with Sunday school in third and fourth grade.
Q. What is your next goal after graduation?
A. My next goal after high school is to attend Messiah College. I want to study elementary education with a dual major in special education and minor in TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages).
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge is probably this year. I got a job at the beginning of the year, so it has been hard to balance working, school, softball, church, my club and to also try to hang out with my friends. It’s been a challenge to keep up with it all, but I’ve learned it to be a very rewarding process. I have realized that I can handle a lot, and still focus on what matters most to me.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered as a friend. I would like people to remember 30 years from now, that I was a good friend to them, and to others.
Q. Who is in your family?
A. I live with my mom, and dad. I have a sister named Maggie, and she is in ninth grade. I also have a dog named Maisy, who is 3 1/2 and two cats, Ben and Jerry, who are three.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. One person I admire is Emma Watson, because she was my favorite character in Harry Potter, which I loved watching her growing up. I also loved how hard she worked to get where she is today.
Q. Do you have any advice for our peers?
A. I would tell them to keep working hard. If you work hard, then it will make the college decision cheaper and easier. And, if you work hard it will pay off for you later on in life.
