First of four parts

Based on statistics provided by the Salisbury Township Police Department in its 2018 annual report, most categories showed decreases compared to 2017.

Salisbury Township Chief of Police Allen W. Stiles released the annual department year in review to township commissioners and administration.

The police department has 22 police officers.

Full-time officers include: a chief of police, two detectives, three sergeants, two corporals and 12 officers. There are two part-time officers.

Five part-time township fire inspectors are under police department administration, as are five school-crossing guards. There are two department administrative assistants. The police department has 34 employees.

The highlights of the police department statistics for 2018 for Salisbury Township, which has a population of 13,505 and housing units totaling 5,285 in an area of 11.4 square-miles are as follows:

Calls dispatched: 8,235, a decrease from 8,807 in 2017, a decrease from 8,883 in 2016, and an increase from 7,987 in 2015.

Incident reports: 5,903, a decrease from 6,767 in 2017, a decrease from 6,591 in 2016, and an increase from 5,844 in 2015.

Arrests of adults: 235, a decrease from 348 in 2017, a decrease from 393 in 2016, and a decrease from 279 in 2015.

Arrests for traffic violations: 923, a decrease from 1,898 in 2017, a decrease from 3,306 in 2016, and a decrease from 3,173 in 2015.

Arrests of juveniles: 42, a decrease from 96 in 2017, a decrease from 90 in 2016, and a decrease from 73 in 2015.

Arrests for non-traffic violations: 63, a decrease from 192 in 2017, a decrease from 250 in 2016, and a decrease from 219 in 2015.

Investigations of vehicle crashes: 357, a decrease from 412 in 2017, a decrease from 413 in 2016, and an increase from 349 in 2015.

Arrests for DUI: 33, a decrease from 43 in 2017, a decrease from 34 in 2016, and an increase from 26 in 2015.

Parking tickets issued: 235, a decrease from 466 in 2017, a decrease from 829 in 2016, and a decrease from 414 in 2015.

Ambulance calls: 1,081, a decrease from 1,166 in 2017, a decrease from 1,026 in 2016, and an increase from 1,007 in 2015.

Fire calls: 183, a decrease from 200 in 2017, a decrease from 192 in 2016, and a decrease from 205 in 2015.

Alarm responses: 364, a decrease from 488 in 2017, a decrease from 428 in 2016, and a decrease from 456 in 2015.

Overtime hours: 6,126 hours, an increase from 2,923.5 in 2017, an increase from 3,640.5 in 2016, and an increase from 3,500 in 2015.

Part-time hours for township police: 194, a decrease from 1,746 in 2017, a decrease from 1,559 in 2016, and a decrease from 1,867 hours in 2015.

Township police cruiser miles: 193,112, an increase from 90,196 in 2017, an increase from 179,694 in 2016, and an increase from 189,283 in 2015.

There were no court hours for township police listed for 2018, compared to court hours in 2017 listed for township police: 347, a decrease from 369 in 2016, and an increase from 214 in 2015.

The township police department budget was $2,512,755, an increase from $2,150,275 in 2017.

Of the township police department budget, $1,847,614.02 was in wages, an increase from $1,836,123.92 in wages for 2017.

The township budget was $8,943,412, an increase from $8,405,555 in 2017.

Police department expenditures were $2,389,845, an increase from $2,249,233 in 2017.

Police department revenue was $65,563.17 a decrease from $140,102 in 2017, a decrease from $138,071.74 in 2016, and a decrease from $115,471.79 in 2015.

Vehicle code violations: $32,826.94, a decrease from $84,000 in 2017, a decrease from $77,938.39 in 2016, and a decrease from $64,386.44 in 2015.

Parking tickets revenue: $1,480, an increase from $1,050 in 2017, an increase from $1,455 in 2016, and an increase from $535 in 2015.

Parking tickets revenue for Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township: $1,930, a decrease from $4,105 in 2017, a decrease from $8,864.50 in 2016, and a decrease from $4,812 in 2015.

Police reports revenue: $4,211.25, an increase from $4,199 in 2017, an increase from $3,959.75 in 2016, and an increase from $3,906.25 in 2015.

County fines revenue: $7,116.92, an increase from $4,903 in 2017, a decrease from $8,759.10 in 2016, and an increase from $6,707.10 in 2015.

Security alarm ordinance revenue: $650, an increase from $500 in 2017, an increase from $25 in 2016, and an increase from $600 in 2015.

Fingerprints revenue: $150, an increase from $90 in 2017, an increase from $125 in 2016, and an increase from $80 in 2015.

Fire inspection fees revenue was $50,025, an increase from $41,255 in 2017, an increase from $36,945 in 2016, and an increase from $34,435 in 2015.
