Jeffrey and Steffany Hartman, along with their attorney, requested a sidewalk waiver at the May 6 Macungie Borough Council meeting. They have lived at their residence since 1996 and requested the waiver due to the sloping of the property and the growth of trees. It is suggested cutting into the tree roots could kill the 80-year-old trees.

There was a waiver filed and approved in 2001; however, it was noted this was not permanent.

It was noted there is a sidewalk across the street but it is a safety concern to cross Route 100. Further investigation is necessary and the request for a sidewalk is suspended indefinitely.

Bryan Smith presented Part 3 of the Main Street Streetscape. This portion will allow for tree planting. The tree chosen was the City Sprite. Lights similar to those on Lehigh Street are also to be installed. The trees will be maintained by residents. The Streetscape Part 3 was approved by council.

A resident complained about a vehicle parking right on a corner. This will be further investigated as there is a legal distance from a stop sign.

Memorial Day events are on the calendar. The VFW Post 9264 will lead the Memorial Day celebration. Graveside memorial services will be held at various graveside locations beginning 10:15 a.m. May 26. The celebration continues May 27 with flag raising and wreath placing. There will also be a parade.

The Macungie Farmers Market ribbon-cutting ceremony will be May 16.

Mayor Ronald Conrad reported there was a fatal accident in Macungie May 3. The accident is under investigation. There was also a fire in a cellar which required evacuation of residents. The fire department handled the situation well.

Anthony Campanell resigned as a part-time police officer.

Keith Breiam was hired as a part-time public works seasonal employee. Breiam is retired.

Right-to-know requests have become quite cumbersome, with some being questionable in nature. A resolution will be drafted for relief from vexatious requestors.

There is a proposal to change the flood plain map. This revised map will affect the park and residents. This is still in the investigative stages.

It was announced the Halloween Parade will not have a rain date. Any funds raised for the event will be used the following year.
