Student Transportation of America, a leader in school transportation, safety and fleet services, has inducted local area school bus driver Maggie Homick into its Safety “Wall of Fame,” the company’s highest and most prestigious honor, at a recent awards ceremony.

“To me, Maggie is the embodiment of the values of the STA Family,” Andrew Krahulik, terminal manager for STA’s operation in Macungie, said. “Her smile, jokes and willingness to help are truly infectious. I, as well as all the rest of the employees at our yard, are proud to have Maggie as a part of the team.”

Homick, a veteran of the school transportation industry with more than 44 years of experience, was chosen for the award based on her impeccable attendance and safety records and her dedication to safety and her community.

“Maggie is always willing to go the extra mile for her team,” Krahulik said, adding that she understands the importance of what she does as a bus driver and always greets every child with a smile. “Even as the times have changed over the 44 years, Maggie has never forgot the core of what we do and why we do it.”

Outside the school bus, Homick volunteers on a regular basis at an animal shelter, not only donating her time but also providing needed supplies. She treats the animals as if they were her own and takes pride in what she does.

“I am honored and shocked to have been chosen for this award,” Homick said, “I am truly thankful for all the opportunities over the last 44 years. I have enjoyed watching generations of families that have passed through the doors of my bus.”

The Safety “Wall of Fame” ceremony took place March 26 in Charleston, S.C.
