At the May 2 meeting of the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners, it was announced the property along Sauerkraut Lane, Brookside Road and Wild Cherry Lane, known as the Weiner tract is being subdivided into eight parcels. Two parcels are part of the 500-year flood plain and will be added to the township’s Greenway system. Five parcels will remain farmland and one parcel could be developed as it is heavily wooded which does not allow for farming.

The plan was approved by the commissioners.

“As long as I am commissioner, there will be no developing on this land. We should make sure that this is never developed by anybody,” Commissioner Brian Higgins said.

Macungie Ambulance Corps gave a report for 2018. The corps responded to 3,727 calls in 2018. There were 28 special operation incidents and certifications were issued for CPR, AED and/or first aid for 571 individuals. The corps personnel also participated in numerous community events. Commissioner Ron R. Beitler made a suggestion to eliminate the need for obtaining a permit for play structures. Presently these are required to make sure these structures are not violating easements or too close to a boundary. This will be further investigated.

There was an Arbor Day celebration with more trees planted at the corner of Sauerkraut Lane and Mill Creek Road. The commissioners are aware of the growing number of trees here and want to make sure that this is being monitored. It was originally stated this area would not become an arboretum.
