EMMAUS BOROUGH COUNCIL
The borough’s first annual Dumpster Day has a date of Oct. 5, which was announced at the Emmaus Borough meeting May 6.
Councilman and head of the health, sanitation and codes committee Jeff Shubzda, said they will “have to go over the logistics and the details” of the event more thoroughly during committee meetings.
Per the last committee meeting notes, the event would include “household hazardous waste, most likely e-waste, a metal recycling dumpster, most likely a contractor for Freon and a tire dumpster.”
The committee is calling it an “all hands-on-deck” event, meaning the public works department will be mandated to work and they want all council members there if possible. The notes also said they are going to be needing people to direct traffic, check ID’s, log cars and addresses and load items into dumpsters.
The event will be a “logistical conglomerate” and will need to most likely take place at the compost site. The refuse hauler will be on site and the hazardous waste facility employees will be on hand as well.
In related news, council passed resolution 2019-20 which will allow the borough to submit a “Department of Environmental Protection Act 190, section 901 grant for financial assistance with household and small business waste collection efforts for the borough of Emmaus’ first annual Dumpster Day.”
Ordinance 1190 passed its first reading which will establish one handicapped parking space during the farmers market between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sundays in front of 332 Main St.
Mayor Lee Ann Gilbert proclaimed the week of May 12 to 18 Police Week in the borough and declared the week of May 5 to 11 International Compost Awareness Week in the borough.
April Schiel was appointed to be the new animal control officer for the borough.
Patty Feninez was appointed to the Emmaus Arts Commission with a term expiring Feb. 7, 2022.
